7.
Hello, folks. This post is two days late being as we have had major internet issues here in Brisbane. January 3rd was our last day in Sydney. A bit of a bummer but we left for Brisbane today and I hear great things. To say I left Sydney on a high note would be an understatement. The last day in Sydney was probably my favorite day in the city. We started the morning by taking a ferry over the bay to the Toranga Zoo. I love ferries. And I love zoos. We were at the zoo for a few hours and saw everything from Tasmanian devils to kangaroos to the biggest and most poisonous snakes in the world (my personal favorite-duh). After bumming around the city yesterday afternoon, we met as a group to discuss our thesis. After all, we are here for school. Right? I think? Everyone get excited……I am doing my thesis on the emerging new technology of photocatalytic concrete. Photocatalytic concrete is a “self-cleaning” concrete that uses titanium oxide to essentially take the pollutants out of the air. This is obviously beneficial for the environment and air quality but also provides for a much cleaner looking concrete. Australia is one of the first countries to use this technology on some of their buildings so I came across it some time ago and hope to find out oodles and oodles of more information and compare the uses and advantages of this type of concrete in both Australia and the states. I know, I know...it is soooo interesting you can hardly stand it.
In other news, the last night Jay, Matt, and I went to Fleet Foxes at the Sydney Opera House. Yes, you read that correctly. One of my favorite bands, Fleet Foxes, at THE Sydney Opera House. Fleet Foxes. Sydney Opera House. I am still trying to catch my breath. It was amazing. Incredible. Beautiful. Astonishing. SO. COOL. For those of you who are not musically inclined, check Fleet Foxes out here. The concert at the opera house was one of my favorite experiences in Sydney, hands down.
